Mills wins Bobby Chapman
Junior Championship
Greer breaks ground for new clubhouse
Members of the Greer Country Club board of directors, staff and building
committee participated in a ground breaking ceremony near the practice green.
Construction on the new clubhouse begins immediately.
Corbin Mills of Easley came from behind in the final round to win the Bobby
Chapman Junior Invitational at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg.
Corbin Mills of Easley came from two shots off the lead to
win his first major junior golf championship at the Bobby
Chapman Junior Invitational.
Mills shot a final round 67 to win the championship by two
shots over Robert Register of Burlington, North Carolina.
The tournament has been held at the Country Club of
Spartanburg but because of major course renovations the
2008 event was played at Carolina Country Club one of
the host courses for the Nationwide Tour's BMW Charity
Classic.
Mills took control of the tournament with a four-under par
32 on his final nine holes.
The long hitting future Clemson Tiger golfer credited his
short game and the ability to stay out of the difficult rough
at Carolina as keys to his victory.
"Solid play and a good short game got me around on a
tough day," said Mills.
The Bobby Chapman Junior field included golfers from 13
states and two foreign countries. In all the 84 players in the
field combined for a total of 7 AJGA major victories, 13
state junior championships and 13 USGA event qualifiers.
Limestone College wins
Trojan Invitational
The Limestone College golf team won the Anderson University Trojan
Invitational at Brookstone Meadows.
The Saints team included (l-r) front row, Ben Ross, Brad Williams, Luke
McCellan, (l-r) back row, Ryan Cisler, Coach Doc Lemmons,  Kyle Parker.
The Limestone Saints won  the Anderson University Trojan
Invitational by one shot. The Saints topped the team from
Tusculum for the title at Brookstone Meadows Golf Club.
The Saints were led by Luke McCellan and Brad Williams.
Both golfers shot scores of 139 for the 36 hole event and
were named to the All-Tournament team.
The two All-Tournament golfers were joined on the winning
team by Ryan Cisler, Kyle Parker and Ben Ross.
Greer Country Club broke ground for a new clubhouse.
Construction on the building is scheduled to begin this month.
The new Clubhouse will replace a facility was that was built in
1970. Construction is expected to be completed next spring.
The new clubhouse will be a multi story facilitiey with a larger
full service dining room, pro shop, offices and meeting rooms.
The old clubhouse will continue to serve members and
guests until the completion of the new club house. When the
new facility is ready the old clubhouse will be destroyed.
The new building will occupy the area now used for the
practice green and swimming pool. A new swimming pool will
be built after the completion of the clubhouse.
The new clubhouse design was developed from ideas offered
by the club members and a special buiulding committe. The
final design was completed by Jason L. Smith, AIA of the
Smith Design Group of South Carolina, LLC.
The new Greer Clubhouse will include large porches around the building to allow
members and guests to enjoy views of the golf course. The artists rendering
(above) is the basic design of the clubhouse but the color scheme for the building
will be different.
Stanley wins Carpet Classic
USC 3nd, Clemson 4th
  Kyle Stanley ran away from the field in the final round of
the Carpet Classic in Dalton, Georgia to record the win.
Stanley shot a final round 69 to finish the tournament at 8
under par and a five shot victory.
Stanley's play helped the Clemson team finish in fourth for
the 54 hole event.
The tournament was won by UT Chattanooga, Tennessee
was second followed by South Carolina and Clemson.
Gamecock senior Allen Koon finished second in the
tournament played at The Farm golf course.
